ipod mini not recognized by computer

i-pod mini not recognized by mac book pro (the latest model with Retina display).

It don't appear in either iTunes and the disk folder.

I tried all the possible procedure suggests by apple.com, like update my iTunes to the latest version...etc.

Would it have something to do with the usb-3 port? Please help! Thanks!

I think USB 3 will work, since it's supposed to be downward compatible with 2.0 (and even 1.1).

If you run Disk Utility (with the iPod connected), does the iPod appear in any way in the Disk Utility sidebar?

In case the USB docking cable is bad, can you try a different cable, or use that cable with another device?
