My MAC screen is frozen on an email page. Even total shut down and the frozen page is back

My Mac is frozen on an email page. Even after total shut down [unplugged, off for hours] it stays frozen on the same page. Any ideas?

iMac, iOS 6.1.3

Are you using the app Mail?

Even though the page is frozen is the Mac otherwise useable? If so, go to the Apple Menu and choose Force Quit, select Mail and click on Quit. Relaunch Mail - still the same problem?

Using yahoo mail. I did command option esc and got rid of the email. Shut down safari. Turned off the Mac but nothing will respond to commands

What version of OS X are you running?

Try a Safe Boot which sometimes helps fix problems:

Restart holding down the Shift key until you see the grey progress bar. Once booted, does it work? If so, restart as normal from the Apple menu and test in 'normal' boot mode.
