my mid-2009 15-inch MacBook does not show the Higher Performance option

Hi - My mid-2009 15-inch, 2.53GHz MacBook Pro does not show the Higher Performance option. Why is that? The computer runs VERY slow on graphic apps that used to run much faster!

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

According to Mactracker, a mid 2009 2.53 GHz 15 " MBP had only a ' NVIDIA GeForce 9400M' Graphics card and Graphics Memory of ' 256 MB DDR3 shared with main memory (Minimum graphics memory usage is 256 MB)'

There were no other graphics options available. The MBPs with faster CPUs (2.66, 2.8, or 3.06 GHz) had two GPU options.

Ciao.
