How do I get my videos in mp4 format to show up in my itunes and then be playable on my ipad and iphone 5?

Import them into iTunes. I have to put mine in the video folder on my harddrive, then import into iTunes, then I'm able to put them onto my iPad.

Get them into iTunes on your computer. Then sync your iPad using iTunes.

But be cautious about the exact form as shown here:
