Q: Exporting album as library

Have been trying to export a smart album I have on a external hard disc drive to the desktop of my MBP.  Can export individual pictures as a "version" but not as a library.  Am using Aperture 3.4.3 and OS 10.8.3.  I get alll the appropriate pulldown menues to make a choice but when I choose the export button, nothing happens.  Suggestions appreciated.

Does this package come with an included uninstaller? If yes, run the uninstaller. Or do you mean, you removed the installed plug-ins from the libraries?

2. Repaired permissions after dumping the preferences in both locations you suggested.

O.K. Maybe I misunderstood what you have tried earlier. When I suggested to repair the library, I meant to launch Aperture with the key-combination ⌥⌘ firmly held down, and to use the repair options from the First Aid panel that will pop up - have you already tried these? Perform all three of them, first "Repair permissions", then "Repair database", then "Rebuild Database".

 

Is the above suggesting two different options?  One is the rebuild and the other is import into new empty library.

 

Yes, it is two options, for I assumed you already had tried the "Rebuild".

 

If neither of the three First Aid measures solves the library problem, try the the import into a new library as I suggested earlier.

  • Create a new library with "File > Switch to Library > Other/New". Pick a drive with plenty of space for the new library.
  • When Aperture opens the new library, import a few test images and check first, if you can export "as library" from this library.
  • Then use "File > Import > LIbrary" to import your problematic library.

 

This is supposed to recreate your library, and if you are lucky, fix the corruption.

    I have been playing around with different libraries on my iMac.  Every library will export but the main one that I have everything on.  I have tried to rebuild the database on the main library.  What else can I do to it?  Nothing else seems to be corrupted on the main library that I can tell.

    (The library on the iMac is nearly identical to the library on the Iomega external hard drive).

    Is that library also on an external drive, similar to your other drive?

    And was that library copied, created from your problematic library?

    The library on the imac is on the hard drive of the computer.  The external drive is a copy of that library.  So the problem is on the imac?

    The problem is either in the original library or with non-Apple software that you installed on both systems.

     

    You already tried to repair the library and to rebuild the library. Did you also try to repair permissions on the library? If not try that too.

     

    There is one more rebuild-option that you could try, but that requires plenty of free space on your system drive. You could try to import your recalcitrant library into a new, empty library to rebuild it.

    3. Restarted the imac and Aperture.

     

    I can export a version of a picture but cannot export a library of any size from the original Aperture library. My main library is 250 gb and my hard drive has 360 available.

    PS I have two back ups of the hard drive library but my assumption is that both are contaminated in some way.  One is on the Iomega and the other is on a Time Capsule external hard drive connected to the iMac.

    Yeah!!!!

     

    I rebuilt the database after using the uninstaller to remove the software from Nik.  Working fine, now.  Thanks very much.  ds

    Wow, congratulations. Great, that you could fix the library.

     

    I'd check the library thoroughly, and then update your backup.

     

    That is the second time now, that the we had a post, where the Nik-bundle has been causing problems.

    I'd write feedback to Google.

    Hi Leonie, thanks much for your help.  Not sure that Nik is the guilty party.  This might be an isolated problem I had.  I was able to rebuild the library on the Iomega external hard drive.  Just for kicks, I returned the Nik program to the applications folder to see if it was truly the culprit and then rebuilt the database.  I was able to rebuild the library without removing Nik so.....not sure they are the guilty party.
