Thunderbolt to HDMI - no audio

I've used a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable to connect my MacBook Air to an HDMI enabled TV. The picture is great, but the audio is still coming from the MacBook Air rather than the TV. Is this correct? Do I need to change a setting somewhere?

I had the same problem. Here is what I did:

Once I had connected the TV and MacBook Air with a Monoprice Mini Display Port/Thunderbolt adaptor (from Amazon) and an HDMI cable. I then went into the MacBook System Preferences/Sound/Output and selected the TV as the source. Then I opened Utilities/Audio MIDI output, selected the TV as the source and changed the setting to 48000.0 Hz from the default 96000.0 Hz.

This did the trick for me.
