Q: Sim Card refused!

Hello again,

I am 100% sure that I bought, from the origional apple store, unlocked Iphone 4s for 449 GBP. I was told that it can be used in any network coverage even outside of the UK. I changed my location now and tried to use another sim card BUT it refused. The phone doesn't recognise the new sim but the new sim is recognised by other phones. Any assistance?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.2

Does is say that there is no SIM, or does is say that the SIM is invalid or unsupported? If it says "No SIM" and the steps in the support article don't help nor does a new SIM, you'll probably need to take or send your iPhone to Apple for service.

    Regards.

    It says NO SIM-

Then I am going to be levied again for additional cost? Where in Ethiopia can I take it to apple store? It is really a pity that I was told by the sales agents that unlocked but bought for locked one for that much amount!? Is it a trick?

Normally if an iPhone isn't unlocked and you try to use a different carrier's SIM, you get a message that the SIM is invalid or unsupported, not that there is no SIM, though I can't say that it would be impossible for the problem to be a locked iPhone. Did you buy the iPhone from an actual Apple Store, either one of their retail stores or the online Apple Store? Does the receipt say that the iPhone is unlocked?

I bought from the actual apple store. I made sure several times asking the sales agents that it works in any network outside of UK. When I try it with different SIM cards it states NO SIM CARD INSTALLED. How am I going to fix this trick?

In what Apple store in the UK did you buy it? Did you try a diffrent SIM? Maybe the SIM you are using is defective. Please be aware that some (non Apple) stores in the UK sell a "no SIM" iPhone, which, while it does not come with a SIM out of the box, IT IS NOT AN UNLOCKED PHONE. It will lock to the SIMs carrier used to first activate the phone.
