Q: Compressor 4 - Batch Processing on a Server: Codec not installed?

I have copies of Final Cut X 10.0.8 Compressor 4.0.7 and Motion 5.0.7 installed on my Macbook Pro and on My Macmini Server. All of my software is Legit. I have Qmaster set up and can connect to my server and can send compressor jobs from my laptop to my server, that works fine.

When I try to use compressor natively on my server I get "Codec not installed" I am not sure why this is happening though I think it may have to do with runing my mac mini as a headless server.

Is it possible that not haveing a monitor hooked up to the Mac Mini could prevent it from using its integrated graphics properly natively?

Does anybody have any sudjestions before I call apple care and ask them?

Thanks in advace,

The first thing that came to mind was that the pro apps codecs may not be in the Quick Time library of the Mini. Is it possible they never were downloaded?

    Russ,

Thanks for the reply. As far as I am aware the codecs are installed. I installed the apps through the app store at the same time I installed them on my Macbook and they both did the same updates. Do you know of a way that I can check for them? I am fluent in the command line so diging them out of my computer should not be a problem provided I know where to look.

    Thanks

    Stuart,

Check the QuickTime folder in Lbrary at the system level of the HD.

BTW, what codec was your source file and what were you encoding to? Have you tried any other codecs as tests?

You probably saw this efffective with the 0.3 update. So in theory it should work without a monitor.

    Russ,

My source was a .avi I am trying to convert some homemovies/personal projects to make them itunes compliant. I am moving home in a month and I want to be able to use my parents apple tv with my server.

I think I may be missing some codecs, but at the same time I am not entirely sure. Here is a list of what I have:

    AppleAVCIntraCodec

    AppleHDVCodec

    AppleIntermediateCodec

    AppleMPEG2Codec

    AppleProResCodec

    DVCPROHDCodec

    FCP Uncompressed 422

    IMXCodec

When I compare my quicktime library on my server and my laptop they both are the same, so I am not sure what to think at this point. Is it possible that both devices are mising something? At the same time, compressor works on my laptop, and it works when I send jobs with my laptop. I think there is something strange happening here.

Perhaps I should throw compressor out on the server and redownload it?

I am starting to run out of ideas.

    Thanks,

    Russ,

I just tested with H264. It works, so I must not have the appletv codec installed? That is my best guess. Do you know how to get that codec from apple?

    Thanks,

If you open an AVI in QT, what does it say about the format? Hopefullyy it says something more than just AVI.

It says the video can not be opened, the required codec is not available.
