How do I trnasfer photographs from my macbook air to my wifes ipad?

sorry, but all I want to do is send six photos to my wifes ipad.
these articles seem to involve 'synching' which I understood to be for machines owned by the same person.
Is there not a simple way via wifi or somthing?

my wife and I are sitting in the same room.
if she had a laptop I could find her in 'Finder' and drag the picture file into her 'dropbox'.
Is there no way of doing this simple act between OSX and iOS machines?
