User accounts separate from system disk

Here's the setup. Have a mini that only has 120KB of memory and 2 HD's 1TB each. The OS on the mini works at this point much better than the one on either TB HD, one is OS10.7, the other 10.8. I'd like to boot the mini but use the users that reside on the external HD's. Is this possible?
