To use the new unified Library with the recent versions of both Aperture and iPhoto, as Terence Devlin pointed out, see this Support article:

Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture

If you have several iPhoto Libraries, you can merge them into one unified library to be used with both programs:

Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries

if you can upgrade to the most recent versions of iPhoto and Aperture, it will simplify things considerably.

Hi,

Thank you for yor responses. Yes, I did read a fair bit of information.

I am running latest versions of Mountain Lion, iPhoto and Aperture.

I started Aperture yesterday and selected the existing main iPhoto library file that resides in my Pictures folder.

Aperture picke all 400 events from iPhoto and showed them as Projects as to be expected.

I modified a few pictures using Aperture. The changes were checked later on in iPhoto and showed ok there in.

Apparently Aperture is using the same iPhoto library file which is 109 GB. That is the only file in the Pictures folder; no other file.

Sunsequently I tried to find out what other files/folder Aperture would have created, but found nothing.

Where are the Aperture database files located ? I do not see any Aperture folder/files.

What do I need to do to see the files and to understand that going forward ALL is ok.

Would appreciate your comments/ suggestions.

Thanking you,

That is exactly as expected. You let Aperture open and use an existing library, so Aperture did not need to create a new library, but added all imported image files to the iPhoto Library.

These User Tips by Terence Devlin will explain that nicely:

How to Access Files in iPhoto

or the Aperture version

How do I access my Photos in Aperture?

Once you ask Aperture to create a new library or to export items as a new library you will see Aperture libraries, excatly where you tell Aperture to create them, by default in the "Pictures" folder.
