My iPod Touch 3G's battery suddenly dies really quickly?

I've had my 3G iPod touch for a few years and the battery life used to be fantastic. I could literally go for days without charging it. Two weekends ago, my battery suddenly died at an extremely fast pace. An app I used to play for three hours before the 20% battery alert showed now made my iPod forcefully turn off in under forty minutes. I downloaded the app Touch Campus Life a day before this started happening but I don't know if this has any correlation. I have deleted the app but the problem still remains. I go from a fully charged battery to the 20% remaining in less than twenty minutes. It's incredibly frustrating... What should I do? Thank you!

Well, as you use a battery more and more, its quality goes down. You can try doing this:

*Disabling apps in multitasking menu

*Turn brightness down

*Airplane mode when not needed

*Complete a full cycle charge monthly(this is to ensure greatest quality)

That solved the problem while my iPod was in lock mode but it didn't solve the problem while I'm actually using it

Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem that indicates a bad battery. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm.

Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

Apple - iPod Repair price

A third-party place like the following is less. Google for more.

iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacment for about $10
