Q: Time Capsule/DSL issue

The line for DSL coming into my home is on a regular phone line.  This line is then split by a splitter so that one line goes to my DSL box and the other to my telephone.  The Time Capsule requires a WAN or Ethernet cable in order to establish an internet connection.  Is there any way I can get my regular phone line to communicate with the Time Capsule?

No, the TC is a router not a modem.. you plug the ethernet from the TC into the modem.

You can change the dsl modem to bridge mode if the ISP supports PPPoE and use pppoe client in the TC wan setup. Or run the modem as router.. almost all are routers now.. and put the TC in bridge mode.

Okay, I have an ethernet cable running from the DSL box to my TC.  The time capsule is blinking amber and my computer tells me it cannot detect the TC.  How do I put the TC in "bridge mode?"

Plug ethernet into the computer from LAN port of the TC..

This is much harder to do by wireless.. if it means you have to pull the TC out of the network because the computer is desktop far away that is fine.. you can do the setup in complete isolation.. indeed it is often the best way.

Bridge is selection in the setup of the TC via the airport utility.

Also make sure the wireless settings are what you want.. and then update the TC and plug it back to the modem..
