Broken DVD/CD player and I need to install Snow Leopard

I have an old MacBook4,1 with a broken DVD/CD drive. I need to install Snow Leopard since I'm still at OS X Version 10.5.8? Am I going to have to bite the bullet to repair my DVD/CD drive in order to do a simple upgrade? I'm afraid to think about what that might cost. It looks like I can't jump right to Mountain Lion and there is no downloadable version of Snow Leopard. Any suggestions? (other than buying a new mac). Thanks!
