Why is my bookmac constantly freezing?

My macbook, no matter what I am doing, will freeze and remain frozen till I force it off. Then once I turn it back on it seems fine for a minute or even half hr. till it freezes again and I have to repeat the process. Does anybody know why and how it can be fixed?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

There are a multitude of things it could be. When you say freezing exactly what happens? Does the mouse still move? Are you getting a spinning beachball? Also it'll be helpful to know exactly which macbook you have, how much ram is installed, how much total and free hard drive space is there? Also are you running OS X 10.6.7 as your profile says?

In order to help we need to know these things.
