I have forgotten my passcode for my ipod, what can I do?

Can I get help to unlock my son's ipod? He has forgotten his knew passcode. He put the knew passcode in and as soon as he did his ipod went dead because

it needed to be charge. When he finally got the chance to charge it, he forgot the passcode. What should we do? We have gone on line to the sight support.apple.com/kb/ht1212 and clicked on ios:wrong passcode result in red dis......... and went through the steps on that sight. Without knowing the new passcode we are unable to unlock it by going through the steps.
