Q: I have Lion 10.7.5 on my MacBook but there is no iCloud.com option in my Mail Preferences - only my me.com address.  Any ideas why this may be, please?

I have a MacBook running OSX 10.7.5 but have no iCloud.com option in my Mail Preferences - there is only my me.com address.  I use my iCloud.com address on my iPad and iPhone - both updated without problem.

I'd be grateful for any suggestion.  I realise that technically it makes no difference as the emails still work but I want all my emails to go from a consistent address.

Open Mail preferences, choose 'Accounts' and select the iCloud account. Where it says 'email address' add the @icloud.com address, separated from the @me.com address by a comma.

The iCloud address will appear in the pull-down 'From' menu in the New Message pane. You can go to 'Composing' in Preferences and set 'Send new messages from' either to the @icloud.com address, which will then become the default for all messages (including other accounts if you have any) or to 'Account of selected mailbox' which will for each new reply default it to the address the message you are replying to was sent.

(This is how it is on Snow Leopard Mail, I would assum that Lion Mail is broadly similar.)

    Many thanks - worked perfectly.

That is not the process the Apple email about moving to icloud.com described - implied it would all happen automatically.

    Thanks again
