Automator

I am just starting to learn about Automator but have very specific workflow/app that I want to create and am looking for suggestions on how to do it, if it is even possible.

I want to record audio and video from an external camera and microphone (separate hi def camera and microphone) into iMovie then export that captured unedited video to iDVD to create a DVD recording and also want to detach the audio and create a second file that is audio of that recording only. I started playing around with automator and it seems that iMovie is not one of the apps that is listed. My second thought was to record the audio and video using screenflow and then detaching the audio after creating the iDVD movie.

Thoughts? Thank you,

Bob
