Q: I'm new to iPad. I've installed some apps. The apps are "open" even when I go to something else or close that page. I just did some updates on other apps and see those apps are still "open". How do I close them?  I'm sure it's draining my battery. Help!

To shut down your Apps just double-click the Home Button.

You will see the "Active" apps at the bottom of the screen.  Just hold finger on one of them and you should see a red circle with a minus sign in it against each app. press the minus sign on each app that you want to close. then tap the home button once to return screen to normal

Those apps are not "running", they are recently used. They are not generally using your battery. Exceptions would be apps that are playing music and navigation apps. There is no need to go closing apps as a regular practice. You really only need to do that if an app is causing some sort of problem.

    Best of luck.

To completely close the apps you need to double click the home button. You will see a row of apps that are open, long press on one of them. They will then all start to jiggle and a red circle with a minis side inside it appears on the top left corner of the app icon, you need to press that on every app you want to close. Hope this helps :)

If you are referring to the fact that, in the App Store app, after you have installed or updated an App, that the Install button changes to now read "Open" then this does not mean that the App is Open and running. It means, rather, that, if you touch the button now marked "Open", the App will be started and "Open". It's just a quick way to get to the App you have just installed or updated.

Thanks dilbert41, TechLover8, and JimHdk. All of your responses helped me to close those apps and give me some insight on how to use and work with the apps. I'm such a novice with this tech stuff. I didn't even know how to reply to thank you all. Took me about 10-15 minutes to figure out how to respond !  Thanks so much for your help. I'm glad to know I can get help and advice from those in the know !!  Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate it !
