Apple Mail inbox message disappear after a week

I have a brand new iMac running 10.8.2. I am using the Apple Mail program to view emails from an AT&T DSL account.

The emails just disappear after a certian time and I can not find any setting for this in preferences (note this is not deleted e-mail, but rather all email in my inbox) As of 4/3, the oldest email is dated 3/27 in my inbox.

The emails are on the AT&T server still, and my old iMac is also receiving them and not removing them.

How do I change this please?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Quit Mail.

Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.

Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:

~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.

A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.

Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

It's up to you, it's just that I tought for a second that when it's organize by conversation, all the e-mails from a conversation are grouped into the same email in your inbox. So when you receive a reply, the last email you got from that conversation comes into the latest one, so you don't see the oldest in your inbox, it's part of your last reply you received...

My solution (if it works was to reset up the mail account as a POP account and not a IMAP, which apple setup defualts to.

I could not find a way to do a manual setup, because Apple setup kept insisting it be a IMAP for this account.

*note: Even in Apple help section they tell you to click the manual box. This box does not exist in the newest setup wizard.

So what i did was, left the "t" off of .net, and since the setup wizard could not help, than it allowed me to manually enter info and pick the type of account i wanted (POP).

From there i just typed in all the info from my old iMac in manually. pop. and smtp. etc.

email has poured in and currently matches the old account. I deleted the old account.

So hoping my e-mail do not disapper as the day progresses
