Hi All
I am trying to make DVD versions of my home videos using my imac with imovie. They were recoded on digital mini cassette using a Sony DCR-TVR28E. I am trying to connect the camera to the USB port on my Mac but it does not seem to recognise any connection. Can anyone help please?

Have you tried importing via firewire?

I have tried using dongle which I used on my previous PC wich was windows based and using a cable supplied with my Mac but I am not sure if either of these is a firewire!

You need a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable, widely available anywhere, to connect the camera directly to your Mac.

I did try to purchase via Amazon a while back it had a very long lead time and at the end of that they informed me that it was unavailable. I felt totally ****** off and decided to come back to this when I had more time to try other cables etc. I will try again to get a cable as you suggest could you tell me which port I should be using on my Mac and what the symbol on it looks like?

Note that Sony call firewire IEEE 1394, which you may see a reference to in their manual.
