My iPod touch 4th generation will not update the software.

I have a 4th gen iPod touch. The software is at v2.2.1 and says that it is up to date and there are no updates for it. My iTunes on my computer is up to date so it is not my iTunes. When I try to download an app, the app store tells me i need at least iOS 5 but when I try to update the software it tells me it is up to date. Is there a reason it will not let me download the update or doesn't recognize there are updates for it? Thank you for any help in advance.

How do you have v2.2.1? You must be looking at the wrong thing.

Are you sure you have a 4G iPod? The 4G iPod was oiginal released with iOS 3.4 or so and was the first to have cameras.

Oh ok, I am sorry I thought it was a 4G, but the original iPod touch also comes in 8 gig. It does not have a camera, but it is all touch screen. So the only way to update the software is to buy it?

Also, my computer will not recognize it under My Computer. When it is plugged in, iTunes recognizes it, but it does not show up in My Computer. I read the forum on it and did everything it said but I didn't know if there was something else I could do that I was missing.

Yes, you have to purchase 3.1.3.
