Q: There's an activation fee?

About a year ago, I bought a 1-month cell activation for my ipad while travelling.  i don't remember paying an activation fee.

Today I tried to do it again for a trip and see there is a $30 activation fee for a one month service purchase: $14.99 for the month plus $30 activation fee.  Even the "How to set up..." instructions don't mention a fee.  What's up?  Is it new?

Speak with your cellular service. This isn't handled through Apple.

How would anyone here know since we don't work for whatever cell provider you are using?

Well since Apple doesn't really take part in these discussions, they weren't really asking Apple were they. Honestly folks, if you can't be helpful, then just don't reply! If you don't know the answer, which is evident here, then just don't reply!

To answer your question, don't click the Add to existing plan button, choose the creat a new account button. It sounds counter-intuitive, but you're not really using your existing cellular account, you are creating a new cellular account for this particular device, even if you are only going to use that service for a month.

The whole process is confusing and convoluted, but I'm assuming at least in att's case it's to try to get you to add the recurring plan to your existing cellphone account so they can get that activation fee.

Sorry you got those other useless bs replies above, there really are people here that will help you!

And how does this answer the OP's question of whether or not there is an activation fee for the as yet unnamed wireless carrier?

Please read the ENTIRE response and you will see. It is spelled out pretty clearly. I'm just trying to help, which is way more than anyone else has done.

Seriously, have some self respect folks! If you don't know the answer, don't respond! People come here looking for help, not attitude. Just because you have hundreds of posts under your belt doesn't give you the right to belittle people who have honest questions.

Trying to help is all fine and good. Belittling other people who are trying to do the same is not.

    Best of luck.

A year ago the iPad 3 came out, it was pointless to purchase (from a standpoint of only minor changes with it). You are paying the "re-activation" fee which is the cost of your sim card to be re-activated on their cellular towers.
