I'm having trouble importing cd's into itunes - namely itunes doesn't acknowledge any cd when I put it in my laptop. I've tried editing my preferences but nothing (so far) seems to work - can anybody help?

Check that your cd/dvd drive is showing in My Computer - at the weekend my DVD drive (E drive) was not showing, and connecting an external dvd writer also failed to show, I had to restore my PC to an earlier time to get it back. If the drive is not showing then no cd or dvd will be recognised.

Thanks for responding.....I've just checked and the drive is showing....with this in mind is there anything else I can check or do?

I think I'm having the same problem, When I insert a CD in the drive I have to close iTunes and reopen it for the disc to show up.
Insert the disc in the drive first, wait for Windows to see the disc and then open iTunes. It's not a solution to the problem, but a workaround that works for me and at least I can import to my Library.

Using iTunes 11.0.4.4 on Windows 7, also did it with previous iTunes version.
I searched high and low for an answer to this issue. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips provided by this forum to try and fix it to no avail. I started to think it must be something with my computer... or that maybe iTunes was trying to tell me I shouldn't be buying hard copies of CDs anymore... finally, I decided to play the CD in windows media player as my last ditch effort to listen to the CD... and wouldn't you know, WM Player offered the option to import the CD. So, I did and then imported the newly created folder into iTunes...
It worked!
It's not the most glamorous thing ever but it worked... and now I don't have to re-buy my whole CD collection from iTunes (I was preparing myself mentally for it just in case)
