I have a Mac Snow leopard. When on Face Time I can hear the other person clearly and he hears me but when he speaks there's an echo where his voice is being thrown back to him. Please could someone help? Thanks.

If this issue is with just one person, this is probably feedback due to the acoustics of that room - the other person's room. Moving the computer around - the other persons computer - and changing the volume might help.

On the other hand if this feedback happens with every person, it's your computer's position and its surroundings that have to be modified with. Just try moving things around on your desk.

Hello again Eustace Menis! (Sorry, Mendis) The same problem has occurred again and according to Apple everything is fine on the Canadian side. I've moved things around on my desk, as you suggested, but the other person's voice is being thrown back at him still. I'm assuming there must be something more I need to do. If you can think of anything I really would appreciate your help. Thanks.

I do not have FaceTime running on Snow Leopard, mine is in Mountain Lion. Some of the specifics I mention will therefore be a little different for you, but the principles are the same.

I. Reset PRAM.

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.

Now check if the microphone is working as it should.

If not, do the following.

II. Verify your settings for Sound are correct.

Apple Menu / System Preferences / Sound. Check both the Output and Input tabs. Mute should not be checked, and Volume should be at least half way.

III. Quit Face Time. Trash the two Face Time .plist files. These are in Users / yourself / Library / Preferences. The files are called com.apple.facetime.....

(don't worry if the names are not quite the same, they will end in .plist).

Perhaps we should go back to square one. But first an aside.

• To take a screen shot of the whole screen, type command + shift + 3. You will hear the sound of the camera shutter, and see an icon on the desktop "screen shot ...."

• To take a shot of a part of the screen, command + shift + 4. The cursor changes to a cross, with numbers to show the x and y coordinates of its position. You hold the mouse button down and trace a rectangle of the area of the screen you want to capture. When you release the mouse button you will once again hear the shutter sound.

Hardware basics: Can you please verify that your camera and microphone are recognized by the Mini. Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac / More Info. Under Hardware on the left, click on USB. On the right you will see the USB Device Tree. Are the microphone and the camera listed there?

If not, try disconnecting and re-connecting the devices.

1. I have never had a Logitech webcam. What model? Does it need a driver to work with a Mac?

2. To include a graphic in a post you have to click on this in the menu bar just above your text,

User uploaded file

then follow the instructions.

3. In the Preferences folder - Users / you / Library / Preferences - is there a file called, com.logitech .... If it is there, you can try trashing it.
