First I wasn't able to open itunes due to a You don't have permission" error. I am the sole user with full admin.

So I uninstslled eveything apple related, but now I get a Windows installler error when I try to reinstalle itunes.

I have installed other programs without the error.

I ran the Microsoft fix it program but it didn't find any errors.

I am still unable to install iTunes, The installation program runs, it gets all the way to the end, then gives me the error message;

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

The following programs do get installed before the error,

Apple Moblie Device Support

Apple Apllication Support

Bonjour

However Apple Software Updater does not install.

Any idaes?

Still no luck. I even used the microsoft Fix It program to unistal the components in stead of using the unistall option.

During the instal atempt, It gets close to the end, It flashes real quick, but I think it is failing at the registry entries.

Sorry to be a bother, but do you have any other ideas?

Thanks for the help so far!

Doublechecking. ASU is currently uninstalled? Trying to rule out variations of the issues that produce that message that are dealt with by the following user tip:

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows

First, Thank you RajaRani for trying to help!

B Noir, yes ASU is not imstalled. So I guess that means the iTunes install fails before that step.

I even tried to insttall quicktime, thunking it would install ASU, and while quicktime installed and worked, it didn't install ASU.

I have even used MSCONFIG to do selective start ups.

Ideas??

🙂 Okay ... let's see if we can get everything but ASU updated.

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").

Inside the folder will be an number of .msi files. Try installing all of them except for the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi individually, by doubleclicking on each msi file in turn. (Working through them in alphabetical order would be as good a method as any.)

Do the installs go through? If so, can you launch your iTunes?

The first 3 programs installed, but iTunes gave the following error;

The installer encountered errors brfore iTunes could be configured.

Errors occured during installation. Your system has not been modified.

Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit.

I tried to install iTunes alone, but it gave the same error.

is this windows 7 32-bit or w7 64-bit?

i'm running w7 64-bit. as you stated some programs installed okay, go ahead and uninstall these as well in control panel > programs.

i also had an issue where the installer rolled back, but it installed successfully for me after I uninstalled all the apple related programs first.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try theiTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
