Search feature on Google Earth crashes

I have used Google Earth for the Mac for a few years without any trouble. Now, it crashes whenever I enter a search term and click the Search button. The version of Google Earth is 7.0.3.8542 (2/26/2013). I downloaded and reinsalled, but that didn't correct the problem. This is a free version. I haven't had this problem until I installed MacOS 10.8.3. There was no problem when using 10.8.2. Is there a remedy? Has anyone else had this problem with 10.8.3?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3, MacPro early 2008, OSX 10.8.3

There's a lot of chatter on the Google Product Forum. MacOS 10.8.2 and .3 crash during search on Google Earth version 7, but not on version 6. I submitted a squawk to Google and to Apple's popup that appears at crash time. I guess I'll sit this one out until Google and/or Apple produce a fix. Going back to GE version 6 has problems with automatic updates to 7 but some tinkerers block the update feature. I don't want to mess with that stuff, so I'll just use GE by hand and by using My Places. Hopefully, this info will be useful to someone else.

I tried this and it didn't work for me. I've gone back to GE 6.2. If someone else feels he need, Google Earth versions can be downloaded from a Google source at this address:

A window opens and you select whether you want the free or the pro version. The next window gives a list of versions and you pick the one you want.

Google Earth 7.1.1.1580 consistently bombs off whenever I type an address in the search field and click the search button. This has been occuring for many months. The earlier version of Google Earth exhibits the identical bug.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5.

Repairing permissions and running scripts did not fix the bug.

Very frustrating.

Hard to believe that Google releases software for which one of the most basic functions is buggy!

The solution can be found by downloading Google Earth 6.2 at this address:

Then click on "Google Earth (free version) Direct Installer Links"

This has worked for me for over two months. Be careful to notice that the operating system you select is BELOW the dotted line. Instinct might make you want to click the one above the dotted line. I don't know why Google uses that way of doing things.

I was glad I found yours and other post about two weeks ago.

Back then, I removed "Move_Media_Player.plugin" to resolve the annoying crash when searching in Google Earth for any address.

I had to look for your post again this week. I had to restore my hard drive with Time Machine, which matched the exact state of my hard drive back then... including the plugin.

Thanks.

I'm on 10.8.5, just downloaded GE 7.1.2.2041 yesterday and really frustrated by the search feature crashing the program. Thanks for your tip, once I deleted the file, the search function works as it should!

Wonder what function the plug-in serves? Is it a GE file installed with the download?

BTW--When I searched for the plug-in, I had a little trouble locating it because it was dated "Oct 14 2009"--I expected the date to be more current-- Also the file was titled with dashes instead of underscores. "Move-Media-Player.plug"

Thanks again for posting the fix!
