Need to unmount the boot partition.

I have an old PowerBook G3 Pismo that I want to force the boot partition to not mount, thus forcing the OS to not boot. I know that sounds odd, but I do want to do that. The question is, how can I do it. Do I need to enter commands into the terminal? Do I need another computer and boot the powerbook into Target Disk mode? The main reason I want to do this is to keep the programs on the mac without erasing the whole drive.

The OS is 10.3.9 Panther (old, but works) I'll upgrade to 10.4 later. Thanks for the help!

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.3.x), 10.3.9, 512mb RAM, 40GB hard drive

Target DisK Mode may be your best bet.

Another alternative. Remove the hard drive. Buy one of these hard drive adapters. http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-to-IDE-SATA-S-ATA-2-5-3-5-HD-HDD-Adapter-Cable-/ 180550148600?pt=US_Drive_Cables_dapters&hash=item2a09a0a1f8&_requireRaptorProxy= false Then connect the hard drive to another computer.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
