I recently bought a macbook pro with retina display. My problem is that I can connect to the net with my wifi but

I cannot connect with my thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. The router shows that it is receiving the connection but I get

a different IP address

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Turn off Wi-Fi and try again. If you still can't connect, move the Ethernet connection to the top of the connection list. Check the settings to make sure you're getting an address from DHCP.

i did turn off the wifi and I moved the ethernet connection to the top..It is still the same. I am getting an ip address from the DHCP but the address is 169.254.77.54 instead of 192.168.1.1. I manually assigned the ip address too but it is still the same. I can connect to the router by wifi and I can connect by ethernet cable on my windows pc. I dont know whats happening now.

That's not an address from DHCP; it's a self-assigned address, which means that DHCP is not working. Restart the router. If there's no change, something is wrong with the adapter or with the router.

the adapter is fine when i use with the other macbook pro and the router is also fine since i can connect to the internet with wifi and can connect to the internet by ethernet on other computers

You're not getting an address from the router via the adapter. That's all I can tell you. Maybe the adapter is incompatible with the Ethernet interfaces on the router. Maybe the cable is damaged. You can come up with such ideas as well as I can.
