ITUNES parental control restriction issues

My family has one library we share over multiple devices. When I set parental restrictions I assumed if someone tries to access it a password would be required. Instead you just can't access it at all. I don't want my kids to access it but I want access to it.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

The Child Safe browser (McGruff SafeGuard) supports multi-user login. While that doesn't solve sharing of the iPad for other apps, it does allow you to set different user settings for surfing the web (child vs. adult, for example).
