Can I edit in Windows Movie Maker after using iMovie?

I recently edited a short movie film during my internship for my office to use in future programs. However, they would like the ability to be able to edit the film in the future in case information changes. I tried converting the iMovie file from .mov to .avi, but Windows Movie Maker doesn't appear to be able to make edits on the things that were applied by iMovie, it can only edit on top of. Is there anyway you can edit on Windows Movie Maker after using iMovie?

iMovie '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

you can edit only hard 'cuts' with media shared btw these two apps. the internals of files are totally different, you can not open an iMovie project in WMM and vice versa.

If you do know, what parts will be changed, create an 'international' version, e.g. create a background for a title in iMovie but don't apply a title => can be done later and changed in WMM. or, if you have a narrator track which will be subject for changes, export without it and add voice-over(s) in WMM......

consider a mp4 with h264 encoded video as 'exchange format' for a better quality instead of historically avi 😉
