I saw that apple offer an instore recycle credit of 10% for old hardware. http://www.apple.com/recycling/ipod-cell-phone/ I have a 2nd gen. itouch and since support has been dropped for iOS5 I am looking to upgrade to an iPad. Can I apply the 10% recycle credit to an iPad or can it only be applied against the same item (i.e. a new itouch)?

The easiest solution would be to take it to an Apple store and see if they staff will give you the same credit...they will be the ones making the final decision.

Apple will apply the monetary value of your old product to an Apple Gift Card, which you will receive in the mail. Use it for purchases at any US Apple Retail Store or the US Apple Online Store.
You can use for whatever you want.
