If you want the DIY, could try chilling it, getting it cooler so the gum solidifies a bit. Heat would melt it out of there but also plastic chips don't respond well to heat so I'd avoid that.

ANy signs of 'abuse or neglect' as defined by apple will void the warranty. That said, chewing gum in the charging port could be defined as abuse.

it all depends on how hard it's crammed in there and what the risks are of simply pulling it out or it being stuck to something and doing damage on the way out.

That's when it may ultimately be best to take it to a service center. They may simply fix it, or they may slap you with 'out of warranty' repair and the hundreds of dollars fee that goes with it.

To be honest, anything I can think of that would be effective in dissolving the gum, would also run the risk of damaging the port.
