This doesn't work... It says it will wipe my Ipod clean and sync it with the library on this computer.

I'm "synced" with my other laptop and just wanted to manually grab some songs off my new desktop computer. But when changing the setting to manually, it wants to Sync to the new computer and warns of wiping out what i have exisiting. Super lame.

So how can I not resync and just manually get songs like any other normal device on this planet can do?

You can't change it until you sync first time. Past first time you become more flexible, but there is no way to bypass that first time legally within apple environment. There however multiple "non apple programs" that allow to do that. Just Google something like "how do I move ipod music to new computer" there also some user guides here on how to do that with examples of those programs.
