Does the camera have a case?

Have you checked the photo quality without a case?

Take a close look at the camera lens cover for scratches, or some sort of residue. It has the appearance of shooting through a dirty filter on a digital camera.

I own both itouch & iphone 5 which both provide spectacular photo images. Looking at your photos, it appear to show solar flare effects normally associated with lens scratches. For an experiment, vary your light sources, side light, rliear light then your in phone flash. If my suspicions are correct the light facing or side should appear more diffused. If this is the case, you might try replacing the camera lens. Good Luck.

The "glass" lens cover is actually sapphire.

I think what he's trying to say is that sapphire is the 2nd hardest substance (diamond is 1st) so it's unlikely you shattered the lens.

If you feel this is not due to user damage, i.e. a drop, I would take it in to Apple and ask for it to be replaced under warranty.

My comment was not meant to "help" it was only a clarification that you can't scratch the lens cover (which could certainly cause artifacts) since it is made from Sapphire.

If you can see that the camera lens is cracked beneath the lens cover then it either came that way or it cracked when your iPhone was dropped. Note that a 5-10 power loupe is really needed to inspect the lens.
