Does updating to iOS 6 take away some "Other" usage?

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen 8GB running iOS 5.1.1. I have recently found myself with less than a GB left of memory on my iPod. I synced it to my PC and it showed I had about 3.0 GB under the "Other" part of the memory. I was wondering if updating to the latest version of iOS 6 would help reduce this memory usage.
