getting cloud items I didn't request

I really don't know how this whole iCloud thing works, but when I scroll through song titles,

I see little clouds next to a few items. Invariably, I did not upload these myself.

Often, they're duplicates of songs I already have. Why are these unsolicited items

appearing in my library, and how can I stop it?
