I just got a new phone number and new iPhone 5. I want to change the phone number associated with my iPad to the new number i'm using. How can this be accomplished?

You have to change the iphone number associated with your apple id.
Do this from your iphone. Then..
Sign out of messages on ipad, reboot ipad, then sign back in.
