Itunes music to external drive

Macbook 10.5.8

I successfully moved my 47GB itunes music to my external drive (consolidate and then moved itunes music/media file to trash), but my music is still 47GB. How do i get this a lot smaller? The actual music file is kept in Ext Drive, just the library is in itunes, but still heavy. Did I do something wrong?

MacBook (13-inch Late 2007), Mac OS X (10.5.8), Itunes 10 - 10.6.3

No, you probably didn't do anything wrong. When you "move" an iTunes library to an external HDD the original files are not deleted. Once you have determined that the library has been moved successfully and there are no missing files or other problems you might need to solve you can go into ~/Music/iTunes/ and delete the iTunes Media folder. Just make sure you've got everything moved to the external HDD before you delete this folder or you'll lose data.

It's also a good idea to have a backup of the ~/Music folder on another HDD, just in case of emergencies.
