Q: Turning on Photo Stream

I have OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 and iPhoto 9.4, but the Photo Stream option in my system preferences for "iCloud" is greyed out, so I'm unable to activate the radio button. The Learn More button doesn't address this issue. Any suggestions?

Go to your System/iCloud preference pane and sign out of iCloud.  Reboot, go back to the iCloud preference pane and sign back in.  See if that will allow you to select Photo Stream.

Yes! Although it's still greyed out, now the radio button shows as activated. However, the Photo Stream folder still doesn't show up in iPhoto for me to access the pictures??

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane

and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.

    Preview001.jpg

Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

Old Toad, I so appreciate your help but I don't have a Photo Share preference pane in iPhoto!

The options are only General, Appearance, Events, Sharing, Web and Advanced.

And, while your intitial instruction - sign out of icloud and reboot - did result in a check mark in the Photo Stream option in my system preferences for iCloud, I didn't actually "select" it, it was just there and it's greyed to disable changes...

I have iPhoto '09 8.1.2.  What am I missing here? Ugh.

    Then why this statement:

I have OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 and iPhoto 9.4,

You'l have to upgrade to iPhoto 9.4.2 via the App Store in order to get PS in iPhoto.

    The "9" registered...but incorrectly.

So sorry to have wasted your time.

It's not a waste of time as we did find out how to get you setup with Photo Stream.
