I have taken still photos with the camcorder, the ipad imports them with no problem. more

The specs for the CCK state:
iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4.

If possible download the movie files via the VLC in iTunes (On the bottom of the Apps page).
