Can the warranty start date be reset to my purchase date for a Best Buy open box item?

I bought an open box iPad at Best Buy on April 2nd. When I checked the warranty, it's set to expire April 23rd. That gives me barely 3 weeks of warranty! Can I talk to Apple to reset the warranty start date to my purchase date? Also, I purchased through my American Express. That should give me a year warranty too?

Thanks for any help!

I just had total 2 hours of chat support / call support and finally talked to Warranty Adviser with same issue.

Open box ipad air was purchased 1/1/14 but the warranty was ending at 11/27/14

After looking at my picture of the best buy receipt, Warranty Adviser could not adjust the purchase date of the

Used/open/displayed/ Ipads and you are stuck with the date it was first purchased.

Also I couldnt get those free iwork apps and they have to go through "unclaiming" process which takes 24 hours.

Open box items from best buy are great discount but warranty information isnt clear when you purchase so be warned.

I bought my first iPad Mini back in June 2013. It was an open box at MicroCenter and was $100 off. I took it home and registered it and the expiratiom date was June 6, 2014 and I bought the iPad on June 7 and the day I registered it. I always thought that this was the way it was supposed to be.

Or, maybe my iPad was really just an open box, opened just to show someone and I was the first person to have bought it.
