Is SSD compatible with mac mini?

After installing Intel SSD 520 series in my mac mini was randomly freezing. I replaced that Intel SSD with samsung SSD 840 pro series and my mac mini is still freezing.the bootcamp partition is freezing too using window. But when I replace either SSD with mechanical drive(hard drive) I dont experience any freezing.

I am running osx 10.8.3.

Can anybody please tell me what is going on?

A quick look at Amazon at the reviews and reviewers report that the Intel SSD 520 works with the Mini. 5 stars on all. I don't have a bootcamp partition, so I can't vouch for that. One reviewer had notes about the Mini trying to make his SSD into a Fusion drive, and he had to work around that but got it working. I don't have a 2012 mini to replicate that on.

I bought Intel 520 cause I read good reviews about it. I found Samsung SSD 840 pro to be better than Intel 520 because the latter was freezing more often than Samsung. When the freezing occur I just put the computer to sleep by gently pressing on the power button and then I wake it up by pressing on any key on the keyboard and everything is back to normal. once a day my mini freezes on me.

FWIW, is the SSD firmware the latest that is available?

Freeze issues tend toward firmware being at fault.

Also, have you perchance done the TRIM "hack"?

If so, could be a possible issue.

BTW, I have been seeing isues reported about the Intel

drives that in some cases even a firmware update has not

fixed. The issues were somehow related to OSX 10.8.3

update.

EDITED: Old post but the following may still be helpful to others.

Which bay did you install your Samsung 840 Pro? The upper (drive bay bracket) or lower (under the WiFi antenna grate)?

I only ask because yesterday I replaced an Intel 520 Series SSD, which was installed in the upper bay, with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. When I tried to install OS X (ML or Mavericks), the install would either abort or if it did complete, I would always get a white screen with a circle and slash through it which means the system couldn't find a bootable drive with an OS.

I read a post on iFixit.com where I purchase a Dual Drive Kit over a year ago, and found the solution which was to swap the drives and put the HDD in the upper bay (with the iFixit SATA cable) and the SSD in the the lower bay (with the Apple SATA cable). Everything booted up and I haven't had any issues. So, I believe the SATA cable that came with the Dual Drive Kit was not compatible with Samsung SSDs. It WAS with the Intel SSD.
