The time it takes to download a movie depends on your internet connection. I have a very fast connection (100Mb/s, though downloading is never likely to reach that speed) and it's taken 15-20 minutes to download the couple of movies I've rented. If you have a more usual slower speed it could take several times that, and of course HD movies will take much longer than SD movies. The file size is specified on the iTunes Store page so you can get some idea from that.
Remember that your download speed is specified in bits, not bytes, so you need to divide it by eight if you want to calclulate the likely download time.
