It's probable that OS X Mountain Lion came preinstalled with the MacBook, so you don't have to pay for Mountain Lion.

To reinstall OS X, follow these steps:

1. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.

2. Choose "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar, go to the Erase tab and erase the drive. You will lose everything stored, so make a backup before doing this.

3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. OS X Recovery has to download Mountain Lion from Apple, so this can take hours. After installing, you will have the latest Mountain Lion version available, now, OS X 10.8.3
