The iPhone 3G is not supported by iOS 5. You need to have the iPhone 3GS at least.
Apple wants you to buy a new iphone , so you can use any apps on the appstore.
vhj I think that you are a little sarcastic about apple...you are always saying that apple let people down, wants to make people buy newer things, etc.
Apple is a company that makes sales of good electronics and try to make money doing that.Just like any other companies

I'm not a fanboy, I'm just stating facts. Microsoft, motorola, google, samsung, ect they are all the same way . Whether it be android, apple, windows phone, palm os, eventually you will have to buy another device to keep up to date with applications.

If your device is an iPhone 3G, than you are out of luck. There is no software update for you. If your device is an iPhone 3GS, than you have the software update to a 6.1.3. But there are plenty of apps that the 3G can use. You have to search for them. If you can't tell what device you have, go to your computer and connect your device to an updated verison of itunes. Once it syncs, it will tell you what type of device you have. If you have the 3GS, update to the 6.1.3. I hope this helps. 😀
