as per above, I was able to get into camera roll - so I just selected all, copied and pasted into folder on my pc.

Can you advise me as to how I can get the photos in "photostream" from my phone to my pc?

Also - is there a way to get the videos from my iphone 4s to my pc?

And, if I put the "sync" back on in itunes - what does it sync/back-up? does it include all photos, emails, text messages, apps??

I also noticed that there is only 6.0 GB FREE of 13.5 GB on my phone.  Is this all the pictures taking up space? As I have less than 10 apps on my phone?

Please advise when you have a moment.  appreciate your expertise.

    Glad you got your photos.

I have not used photo stream but those photos will be in the iCloud.  Sign in to iCloud on your PC and see if you can copy them.

As for the videos - if you had them in your camera roll (videos taken by your phone) they will have come down with the photos you just copied.

To find out what is taking up space on your phone go to Settings>General>Usage and you will get a list of size for each App.

Yes, you were right - the videos imported along with my photos. thanks for that.

To check the space - I went to usage and see that the apps in total only take less than 1.5 GB of space - videos & music next to nothing...does that mean the rest of the space is taken up by pictures and/or iphone4s functions?

also, I am getting notifications for apple software update to:  iOS 6.1.3 - should I download and install? I heard that there were problems with this release. Your thoughts?  and thank-you.

I am running my 4S with 6.1.3 with no problems at all (like thousands of others). There are some reports of problems on this forum but they are a very small percentage of the millions of iPhones out there.

Its your decision at the end of the day.

As to your space problem - connect your phone to iTunes and select it in the sidebar (as if you were going to sync).

At the bottom of the screen in various colours are the sizes of things like Apps, Photos, Videos etc.

There is one called "Other".  If this is larger than say 1.5 Gb then you may have a problem.

If it is very large you can search these forums as there are multiple post about reducing the size of "Other"

    Hope this helps.

PS - to see the size in Gb just hover your pointer over the coloured section.

okay - I will do the iOS download... As to the space issue - I have opened itunes(latest version) and I have ticked the box, so syncing doesn't happen.  But I do NOT see any colours, or apps or photos. Not seeing anything except for Genius - and various Music 90's music, classical, etc.

Perhaps, I don't understand when you say "select it in the sidebar" .  Please clarify.

  • dilbert41 Level 4 Level 4 (3,085 points)

If your phone is connected in iTunes you should see it in the sidebar.  Just click on it and you should see your phone summary in the main part of the screen. Very near the bottom you should see the coloured sections in a strip.

  • Mosaic1111 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

okay - I found it. photos are 5.2 GB and Other is 2.4GB. You mentioned something before about "other". What is "other". My apps only take up 150 MB of space.

    Any thoughts on this.

Also, what happens if I SYNC here?

  • dilbert41 Level 4 Level 4 (3,085 points)

As you were on autosync before you changed it I think you've probably done enough syncing for one day !!!!

Whenever you want to sync now - just click the Sync Now button

Other contains a bunch of stuff like Album Artwork, App data, etc...

  • Mosaic1111 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

okay - do you use "find my phone" feature? I noticed that it is currently OFF in my settings.

how does the feature work and do you need a password?

  • dilbert41 Level 4 Level 4 (3,085 points)

I think we are getting a bit far from the original question in this thread.

If you switch on Find My Phone you can locate it on a map and remotely erase or lock it (like it says in under the option)

You don't need a password, but you will need to access your iCloud account on a PC or other iPhone to perform those functions.

    Hope this was helpful.

If you have other questions please start a new post as this one has already been flaged as solved - so other helpers won't be looking at it.

Just want to make sure you are getting advice and help from as many people as possible.

Just wanted to add that I had the same problem (unable to transfer pictures from iphone 4S to a PC running Windows 7) and that dilbert 41's answers here solved my issue! The iPhone driver needed to be updated. Now things are running smoothly. Thank you!

Thanks -- I was having the same problem today, and was able to find and update the driver using your replies here. Problem fixed!

Sure, you can transfer iPhone photos to PC easily on condition that you use the right method, this is my suggestions about it:

Step 1: Launch iPhone to Computer Transfer then plug in your iPhone

Step 2: Select Photo files and click "Export" button to Computer/iTunes

Step 3: Set the Output folder at Advanced -> Options

Step 4: View the transferred photo files on Computer

Hope it can help you a lot!

Many people would like to use iTunes to transfer pictures from iPhone to PC.

If your plug your iPhone into pc - it shows up in itunes - but it does NOT show up in your devices, you can upgrade your iTunes and try it again.

If you still can't use iTunes to do it, I think you should try another way to transfer your iPhone picture to PC.

    Good luck!

    Hi all,

just joined a sec ago to post the result of my 2 day dig for a solution on gettin' photos other the the camera rolll from iphone to your pc. Solution is this photo app:

tried it myself just now, worked like a charm. I got the photos to my pc now. It's not the most versatile tool as you cannot manage the photos ON your iphone but for overwriting / deleting photos other then the camera roll shouldn't be a problem... just sync in itunes with a different folder then previously. this should overwrite all existing. last resort would be a restore...
