How do I close my Apple account??

Ive recently sold my macbook and just receieved an email saying the password had been reset although I was still able to go on and reset it myself via my email, has the person thats bought my macbook somehow accessed my account?? I dont have a macbook or anything on iTunes so I'd rather just delete it till I need to make one again, can anyone help here, thanks.
