How to fix a cracked screen of iPad mini still in warrenty

I bought an iPad mini a month ago in US as a tourist. At home (Israel), it fall, and the sceen got cracked. What are my options to fix it? Assuming I have a friend that is traveling to US in two weeks and can take it there if requied.

I understand it is not on teh warrenty agreement, but I am willing to pay for that fix, and I prefer apple support for that fix and not third party lab.

Thanks In Advance.

Unless you purchased Apple Care Plus, it won't be covered under the warranty. Out of warranty costs for the mini starts at $219 and goes up depending on the model (32 or 64 gig cost more, as do 3G versions)

Basically you pay a fee to replace your broken iPad for a refurbished replacement, so if you send it, do a complete backup before you send it off because that exact device won't be coming back.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

iPad model Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
iPad mini $219
iPad 3rd, 4th generation $299
iPad 2, iPad $249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

Thanks Guys, Few questions:

* What is teh quality of the refubrished ipad mini? I bought my broken one one month ago...

* What does it mean rebubrished? Is it a broken/bad IPAD that was fixed in Apple Labs? How reliable is that fix? Can it last same as new one?

* Do I have warrenty on the rebubrished one?

* I bought my IPAD at BestBuy, can I still replace it on apple store (I have the receipt )? Do I need an appointment, make sure they have it in store or just go there and replace it?

Thanks In advanced.

Since you bought yours at best buy, take it back there first. This is what happened to me, no idea if you'll have the same experience. I was within the 90 day return period on my iPad. The 30 pin port malfunctioned and I took it back to best buy, where I'd bought it. (The closest apple store is over an hour away). They were going to send it in for repair, then the computer told them to give me a new one off the shelf in exchange for my malfunctionig one. So I walked out with a brand new iPad.

My situation is different from yours in that mine was a manufacturer's defect, not 'abuse' (that's what Apple calls breakage, no judgement), but maybe you'll luck out. You may not however, I honestly don't know. But worth a trip to at least see what they say.
