how to take a photo of a photo without glare/creating jpeg files

want to know it others have tried take photos of photos to create files to use in computer/book creating. I am experiencing glare from flash and some distortion is there a box unit or some equipment that will make this easier? What have you found? looking for a low cost way to archive old photos / not even that old 2000's lets say...

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), nikon 3200 / iphone 4s
